Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has bemoaned inexperience for his side succumbing to a 3-1 defeat against Crystal Palace today, while still having words of praise for Rickie Lambert.

The Liverpool manager saw his side take the lead in just the second minute when Lambert found the back of the net.

However, despite enjoying the lion's share of the possession, Liverpool's defence looked vulnerable and Dwight Gayle drew Palace level in the 17th minute.

The second half saw the Eagles pull in front, through Joe Ledley (78th minute) and then seal the deal when Mile Jedinak struck only three minutes later.

Liverpool had no answer and went down to their fourth consecutive defeat to pile pressure on Rodgers.

Rodgers was pleased with Lambert's performance though, telling Sky Sports: "It was a terrific start to the game to get up so early and well done to Rickie Lambert, great move and finishing to get his goal."

The Liverpool boss was disappointed with the defeat however and blamed game management, pinning the blame on a lack of experience of how to manage situations.

"We work on defending, we work very hard on being compact, but we never managed the game.

"That management of the game, of course that's down to experience, we've got a lot of young players who are new to the club."
