Arsenal will be without striker Olivier Giroud for their last two Champions League group games after not registering the Frenchman in their squad.

Giroud hurt his ankle on 23rd August and was not slated to return to action until January, by which time the Gunners' Champions League group campaign would have been completed.

As a result Arsenal left Giroud off their squad list, which was submitted by the 2nd September deadline.

However, the Frenchman returned from injury much quicker than thought and was brought on as a substitute against Manchester United on Saturday.

Giroud scored a stunning long-range strike for Arsenal's only goal of the 2-1 defeat.

But he will not have the chance to follow up the feat when Arsenal play Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday evening at the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal need one point from their games against Dortmund and Galatasaray to qualify for the last 16.

At that point Giroud can be registered.
