Leeds United legend Eddie Gray has blasted defensive errors for the Whites' 2-1 defeat to Blackburn Rovers on Saturday.

Neil Redfearn's men scored first in the game, Souleymane Doukara striking in the 33rd minute, to head in 1-0 up at the break at Ewood Park.

However, approaching the end phase of the second half, a mix-up between Leeds goalkeeper Marco Silvestri and defender Liam Cooper gifted striker Jordan Rhodes an equaliser for Blackburn.

Then full-back Sam Byram was judged to have brought down Luke Varney inside the box, allowing Rhodes to step up and slot home his second from the penalty spot, giving Blackburn the 2-1 win.

And Gray is sure that defensive errors cost Leeds.

"I don't think Sam should have stuck his leg out and given Luke Varney the chance to go down – and that's what happened", he explained to LUTV.

"The goalkeeping error was just horrendous", Gray added.

And the former Leeds man has warned matters will not get any easier with league leaders Derby County visiting Elland Road next weekend.

"Derby are flying, they're going really well. So it doesn't get any easier. But that's what you've got to put up with in this league."
