Arsenal and Juventus target Simone Scuffet has revealed he rejected the chance to sign for Atletico Madrid in the summer and claims to have no regrets.

The young goalkeeper, who has been likened to Italy legend Gianluigi Buffon, turns out for Udinese at club level and decided remaining at the Serie A side would be the wisest move for his long term development.

And that meant turning down the Spanish champions when they came calling.

He told Sky Italia: "I rejected Atletico Madrid in the summer because I preferred to continue my development at Udinese, a club who have been helping me a lot.

"I'm working with the club to reach the top and to be important in the games that matter."

One dark spot for Scuffet is that he has not been picked yet this term, with Orestis Karnezis being regularly selected between the sticks.

But this does not make the 18-year-old regret staying put and turning down the chance to succeed Thibaut Courtois at the Vicente Calderon.

"I'm happy with the choice I made. I'll stay at Udinese in January too."
