Carlo Ancelotti admits he came close to signing Mario Balotelli when he was in charge of Paris Saint-Germain, but ultimately opted for Zlatan Ibrahimovic, someone he felt was a safer option.

Balotelli impressed at Euro 2012 with Italy, causing Ancelotti to consider taking him to the Parc des Princes.

But the Italian ultimately raided his old club AC Milan to snap up Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who has been prolific with the French giants.

Now at Real Madrid, Ancelotti admits he felt Ibrahimovic was the better option, but nevertheless backed Balotelli to eventually settle down and show his best.

"He needs to find a place where he feels comfortable. He'll do that sooner or later", Ancelotti told La Repubblica.

"I tried to get him when I was at PSG. He produced an excellent Euro.

"Then we had the opportunity to recruit Ibra and we opted for the safer option", the Italian added.

Balotelli joined Liverpool from AC Milan this summer, but is still waiting for his first Premier League goal for the Reds.
