New Inter Milan boss Roberto Mancini feels his side’s 1-1 draw with their arch rivals AC Milan last night was a “fair result.”

The Nerazzurri, who appointed Mancini to the helm after sacking Walter Mazzarri during the international break, fell behind to a 23rd minute strike from Jeremy Menez.

But Inter managed to score the eqaliser through Joel Obi after the break to hand Mancini a point in his first game in charge of the club, where he previously managed between 2004 and 2008.

And the Italian, who admitted that the Milan derby was a tough way to start his second stint at San Siro, was however pleased with his side’s performance against the Rossoneri.

“I'm happy with how we played”, he was quoted as saying by FIFA’s official site.

“It wasn't easy with just five days working together trying to adapt to a new system after having worked a year and a half under a different one.

“Starting with the derby wasn't the easiest thing. Obviously, it wasn't a normal night. It's been quite a hectic past two days.

"You have to rely on your instinct but it was great to come back to the San Siro and see it so full. We wanted to win, but in the end it was a fair result."

Inter are currently ninth in the standings with 17 points from 12 games, and Mancini insisted that his side are aiming to qualify for next season’s Champions League by finishing third in Serie A.

“We will need some time, but our objective is to get back to winning as much as possible and quickly", he added.

"We're aiming for a third place finish."
