Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney has adopted a slapdash approach to picking a five-a-side team by refusing to select a goalkeeper.

Rooney was taking part in Manchester United's 'training talk' series and was asked about who he would select in his ideal five-a-side team.

The England skipper instantly mused over whether picking a goalkeeper was needed and ultimately opted to ignore the specialist and crucial position.

Rooney, choosing a team to play alongside himself, said: "Do you have to have a goalkeeper? If not, I’ll go for Angel [di Maria], [Radamel] Falcao, Robin [van Persie] and [Juan] Mata."

The Manchester United star's line-up is also attack heavy and features no defenders or even central or defensive midfielders.

On who has scored the best goal he has ever seen in training, Rooney is clear, with current assistant manager Ryan Giggs his selection.

"I’d probably say Giggsy. I remember him scoring a volley a few years ago", the striker said.
