Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has taken a swipe at the club's second largest shareholder Alisher Usmanov, after he criticised his performance.

Usmanov suggested that Wenger was susceptible to making mistakes and also claimed the Gunners need to strengthen in every position across the pitch if they hope to match up to their rivals both at home and abroad.

But Wenger, questioned about Usmanov's comments during a press conference today, took a dim view of the shareholder's opinions.

"We have values at this club, the first one is when we go through a difficult period we show solidarity", the Frenchman replied.

"The second one is when we have something to say, you say it face to face and not in the newspaper."

The Gunners have also conceded 15 goals in their 12 matches, while scoring just 20, ten goals fewer than league leaders Chelsea.
