Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany has dubbed Sergio Aguero the side's "special player" after he hit a hat-trick to help the Citizens to an unlikely 3-2 Champions League win over Bayern Munich.

Manchester City got off to a good start when Augero scored from the penalty spot in the 21st minute, with Bayern Munich defender Mehdi Benatia seeing red for the challenge which caused the spot-kick.

But in five minutes before half-time, Bayern Munich stunned the Citizens, scoring through a Xabi Alonso free-kick and a Robert Lewandowski header.

As the game drifted towards the end it seemed Manchester City would lose to the ten men, but Sergio Aguero struck in the 85th and 90th minutes, giving Manuel Pellegrini's men the advantage.

Bayern Munich had no answer and slipped to a 3-2 defeat.

And Kompany was left lavishing praise on Aguero for his role in Manchester City's victory.

"It was an awkward game. They were incredibly lethal and played well with 10 men but we did what we had to do and defeated a big team today", he told ITV.

"If you want to succeed at anything you need to a special player in a special form. Sergio Aguero is our special player and when he is in that form he makes things achievable.

"What a game it will be against Roma. We will take a lot of fans and the atmosphere will be incredible."
