Jonny Evans was pleased to get some minutes under his belt last night for Manchester United’s reserve team after a long injury layoff.

The Northern Irishman played 60 minutes of Manchester United reserves’ 5-0 victory over Blackburn Rovers in the Lancashire Senior Cup.

It was Evans’ first taste of action since he last played in Manchester United’s 5-3 loss at Leicester City earlier this season. The defender was nurturing a fractured foot and just returned to training last week after completing his rehabilitation.

Evans is pleased to get a few minutes under his belt, but is still unsure whether he will be picked for Manchester United’s clash against Hull on Saturday.

He has left the decision to the manager and the fitness coaches, but admits that it is taking him some time to completely recover from the long injury layoff.

"It's nice to get 60-odd minutes under my belt", Evans told MUTV.

"It's been a long time coming. I didn't expect to be out this long so I'm pleased to get some minutes. I thought the lads played well and it was an enjoyable game to be part of.

"I think the manager will have to assess that [a first-team recall] and also the fitness coaches.

"I've been training for a week or two now but it's taking me time to get my fitness up as I've been out for so long."
