Liverpool striker Rickie Lambert has revealed that his goal in his side’s 3-1 loss to Crystal Palace at the weekend has boosted his confidence.

The England international, who joined the Reds from Southampton in the summer, netted his maiden Liverpool goal in 13 appearances after latching on to a pass from Adam Lallana at Selhurst Park.

And Lambert admitted the goal against the Eagles came as a huge relief as he finally managed to find the back of the net for his new employers.

The 32-year-old, who has been mostly used as a substitute by manager Brendan Rodgers, further added that he is now hopeful of getting an extended run in the team by scoring more regularly.

"There were so many emotions that it is hard to describe how I felt – there was obviously pure elation and a lot of relief”, Lambert told the club’s official site.

"There were so many emotions let loose in the celebration. I was so happy to get off the mark for Liverpool.

“I had to wait a little while for it, but it has finally come and hopefully that is the first of many now.

"It does make me more relaxed. Like every striker, the first goal is the most important because it calms your nerves and gives you a confidence boost.

“That is definitely going to happen now, I believe, and I'm hoping to get a run in the team."

Lambert, whose contract with Liverpool runs until 2016, scored 115 goals in 229 appearances in all competitions for his former club Southampton.
