Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger says he is proud of having led the club to the knockout stages of the Champions League for the eleventh consecutive campaign and suggested those not in football do not appreciate how difficult it is to do.

The Gunners needed just a point at home to Borussia Dortmund this evening to qualify, but took all three with an impressive 2-0 win.

Arsenal can now overhaul Dortmund for leadership of the group if the final round of matches go their way.

And Wenger has been quick to speak of his pride at Arsenal's qualification, a feat he knows true football men will appreciate.

"When you work in a football club you will realise that it’s not easy to have a continuity and to be consistent", he said via his club's site.

"I am very proud of that and I think the club also deserves a lot of credit for that.

"It’s not enough because we want more than that but we are consistent."

Wenger also explained he has not given any thought to whether fans take qualifying for the knockout round for granted.

"I don’t know. I don’t try anymore to think what people think. What is important is that we are united."
