Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger expects midfielder Mikel Arteta to be out for some time after he injured his calf in a 2-0 win over Borussia Dortmund this evening.

Arsenal took the lead in quickfire fashion through Yaya Sanogo in just the 2nd minute, who sprung the offside trap to prod the ball home, at the Emirates Stadium.

The Gunners continued to have the better of the game and even doubled their advantage in the second half when Alexis Sanchez struck.

The Gunners needed just a point to qualify, but booked a last 16 spot in style with a 2-0 win.

Post match Wenger was asked about Arteta, who picked up an injury, by Sky Sports.

He replied: "Mikel Arteta doesn't look good – it's a calf. I think he will be out for a while."

Wenger, reflecting on the performance, took time to praise Arsenal's increased defensive solidity.

"Maybe we were defensively better tonight. We are a team that likes to go forward – sometimes we feel dominate the game and we maybe forget to take precautions to defend.

"We did that better tonight."
