Rickie Lambert believes that Liverpool answered their critics tonight by drawing 2-2 away at Bulgarian outfit Ludogorets Razgrad in the Champions League.

Liverpool got off to a disastrous start in Bulgaria when Simon Mignolet spilled a shot and Ludogorets took the lead in just the 3rd minute.

However, Liverpool were not behind for long and up popped Lambert in the 8th minute to draw the Reds level.

Jordan Henderson then put the Reds ahead in the 37th minute and Liverpool looked to be heading for victory as the clock ticked down.

But as the Reds dropped deeper and deeper, Ludogorets came up with an equaliser in the 88th minute, breaking Liverpool hearts.

However, Lambert feels the performance was much better from the Reds, than their defeat to Crystal Palace at the weekend, and the striker believes critics have been answered.

"The performance was a lot better today and that was the main thing we were after", Lambert told Sky Sports.

"We were devastated at the goal, devastated, but it's not a bad result.

"We've answered some of the critics about Sunday night, which we wanted to address.

"We wanted to win and we almost got it. We've got to take heart out of that and go for an even better performance on Saturday."

Liverpool must now beat Basel in their final game to qualify for the last 16.
