Though Arsene Wenger expects the injury situation at Arsenal to clear up by January, he still intends to make one new signing in the winter transfer window.

Arsenal are currently undergoing a severe injury crisis. Mikel Arteta has been ruled out for a few weeks and Jack Wilshere’s ankle surgery means he is out for three months.

But Olivier Giroud’s comeback last week and the return of Laurent Koscielny to the squad have eased some of Wenger’s worries.

The Frenchman also expects full-back Mathieu Debuchy to be back next month and believes by January, he will have most of his first team squad fit.

Wenger is still intending to buy at least one new player in the winter transfer window to shore up the squad, but has not indicated the position he wants to strengthen, even though it is thought to be the defence.

“January might be a month when we have nearly everybody back because Koscielny is back in the squad, Debuchy will be back I think in two weeks”, Wenger said in a press conference.

“We have gone through a period where we are very short but we discovered as well that players have learnt their job well in the centre-back position, like Monreal and he is doing very well now.

“In January we will of course try to get at least one body in.”
