Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has taken a dig at clubs and countries that mount campaigns for players to be awarded individual awards.

For a number of weeks, various Real Madrid players have been backing team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo's candidature for this season’s Ballon d’Or and some feel if the Portuguese doesn’t win the award this season then it will be a ‘disgrace’. There has also been campaigning for a spot on FIFA's team of the year.

On being asked is Diego Costa the best striker in the Premier League, the Chelsea manager said: “I am not in favour of this kind of situation.”

Setting aside Costa’s question, the Mourinho said that it seems some clubs are running political campaigns to back their players for individual awards.

“It looks like they are doing a political campaign.

Ronaldo is widely expected to win the 2014 Ballon d'Or, although several prominent figures have suggested a German should win the award due to the country's World Cup victory in the summer.
