Celtic goalkeeper Craig Gordon has conceded that they couldn’t handle Red Bull Salzburg last night.

The Scottish champions suffered their first defeat in the Europa League this season when they went down 3-1 against the Austrian outfit at Celtic Park.

Two quick goals in the first 15 minutes of the game from Salzburg’s Brazilian forward Alan stunned the Hoops and although Stefan Johansen pulled one back for Celtic, the Scottish champions never recovered from the early setback.

And Gordon admits that despite knowing Salzburg’s penchant for a quick start, Celtic couldn’t handle the Austrian champions during the opening exchanges.

He stressed that Celtic did play well for the rest of the game, but the opening few minutes turned out to be crucial and ultimately decided the game in Salzburg’s favour.

“They had a great start and we knew they would come at us and we didn't handle it”, the Scotland goalkeeper told UEFA.

“That's what they are good at; they start games quickly and put you under pressure.

"The rest of the game we coped quite well but we gave ourselves a mountain to climb right at the start.”

Despite last night’s loss, Celtic have qualified for the last 32 of the competition due to other results in their group.
