Former Watford head coach Billy McKinlay has been appointed as David Moyes’ assistant at Real Sociedad.

He was sacked by the Hornets after just eight days in the job earlier this year and was replaced by former Chelsea midfielder Slavisa Jokanovic.

McKinlay was also coach of Fulham’s reserve team and was the Northern Ireland assistant manager between 2012 and 2014.

The former Manchester United boss has called upon the former Scotland international to be his assistant at Real Sociedad as he acclimatises to a new country and league.

Moyes’ first game in charge, after being appointed earlier this month at Real Sociedad, ended in a 0-0 draw against Deportivo La Coruna last weekend.
