Louis van Gaal is not surprised that former Manchester United captain Steve Bruce has made a name for himself as a manager.

Van Gaal’s Manchester United will host Bruce’s Hull City tomorrow at Old Trafford in a Premier League clash, as the Red Devils look to build on their new found momentum.

But the Dutchman remembers the Hull boss as a tough defender who led the Red Devils, alongside Bryan Robson, to their first league title in 36 years in the 1992/93 campaign.

And the current Manchester United boss is not too surprised that Bruce has gone on to become a manager as he believes most good leaders turn out to be competent managers too.

"I have seen him playing at Manchester United”, Van Gaal said in a press conference.

A Bruce managed side have never managed to beat Manchester United in the league, a record the former defender will be aiming to end this weekend.
