Ander Herrera is ready to fight his way back into the Manchester United team after recovering from a rib injury.

The new summer signing was showing fine form when he suffered the injury in Manchester United’s 2-1 win over West Ham earlier this season.

He returned to the first team after missing just one game and wore a protective corset for his ribs against West Brom last month, but looked off the pace.

He has warmed the bench for Manchester United’s last five league fixtures, partly due to Marouane Fellaini’s form and Michael Carrick’s return, but also there are still lingering doubts whether he has completely recovered from his injury troubles.

But after a run-out with Manchester United’s Under-21 side earlier this week, Herrera feels he is fit and ready to get back to the hurly-burly of first team action.

Herrera stressed that no one can walk into the Manchester United eleven and he is ready to work hard to get back his starting berth.

"It was an untimely injury because I felt good and confident", the Spaniard told MUTV.

"Now I want to be ready when the boss says he wants me to play and I am ready.

"Of course I want to play as does every player, but I am at Manchester United where there are a lot of good players.

"I am a lucky guy to be here and I have to see these moments as a challenge for me."
