Paris Saint-Germain forward and Liverpool target Ezequiel Lavezzi is contemplating returning to his former club Napoli in January.

Lavezzi’s representatives and PSG were negotiating a new deal for the player, whose current contract is set to expire in 2016.

But it emerged yesterday that the contract negotiations have come to a standstill and the player is contemplating leaving the club.

Liverpool have been on Lavezzi’s trail since last summer and are keen to pounce if the player is willing to leave this January.

But in what will come as a blow for the Reds, the Argentine is contemplating a move back to his former club Napoli as early as January to continue his career in Serie A, according to Tuttosport.

Lavezzi still has a special place in his heart for Napoli, who took the Argentine to Naples in 2007 from San Lorenzo.

The forward made 188 appearances for the Serie A side, scoring 48 goals and providing 61 assists before moving to PSG in 2012.
