Former Arsenal forward Thierry Henry has officially announced that he is leaving MLS side New York Red Bulls and has played his last game for the club.

The Frenchman’s contract with the club was until the end of the MLS season and he played his last game on Saturday.

Joining the side in 2010 from Barcelona, the Arsenal legend clocked up 132 appearances for the club, scoring 51 goals and providing 41 assists.

He won the MLS Eastern Conference title twice with New York Red Bulls in 2010 and 2013 and also played a crucial role in his side’s run to the playoffs this season.

The Frenchman wrote on his Facebook page: “I am taking this opportunity to announce that unfortunately Saturday was my last game for the New York Red Bulls.

“The decision has always been that I would leave after the duration of my contract and although that was never going to change, I didn't want it to distract from the progress of the team”, Henry continued.

“I have immensely enjoyed my four and half years here and would like to thank everyone involved with this club who has made my time here so enjoyable.”

There is speculation that Arsenal want Thierry Henry back at the Emirates Stadium in some sort of an official ambassadorial role and rumours of him joining the Indian Super League next season are also doing the rounds.
