Manuel Pellegrini has insisted that a decision on Frank Lampard’s future at Manchester City will be taken at an appropriate time.

The former Chelsea midfielder, who is on loan at the Etihad from New York City FC, scored the second goal in Manchester City’s 3-0 win over Southampton yesterday.

He has scored five goals since moving to the Premier League champions earlier this summer on loan and there are rumours that Manchester City are keen to extend Lampard’s stay in England beyond January.

Pellegrini has continued to dodge the question on Lampard’s future with the Citizens and said the decision will be taken at an appropriate time with everyone’s best interests in mind.

"We're going to have to make the best decision for him, the club, New York City, for everyone", the Manchester City manager told the BBC.

"I will continue to answer this question in the same way: we are going to decide in December when we have to make the decision, what will happen with Frank."
