Former Manchester United goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar has hailed his old club's win away at Southampton last night, but warned their performance was "poor".

Louis van Gaal's men went 1-0 ahead at St. Mary's Stadium, but were pegged back by Southampton, with the scores level 1-1 at half-time.

Robin van Persie scored his second of the game to hand the visitors all three points via a 2-1 win, but Southampton had been the better side throughout and pundits queued up to criticise Manchester United's display.

The win though was their fifth in a row and moves them to third in the Premier League standings.

"That's some win for Manchester United after poor game and Robin van Persie important with his goals!", Van der Sar tweeted.
