Cruzeiro have knocked back Real Madrid’s €13m opening bid for Lucas Silva, according to reports in Brazil.

Los Blancos have identified the 21-year-old as a long-term replacement for Sami Khedira, whose contract with the club will expire next summer.




Cruzeiro’s director of communications confirmed the club received an offer for Silva, but refused to divulge the details.

It is believed that the Brazilian club want at least €15m for the defensive midfielder, whose contract with Cruzeiro runs until 2017.
 


But negotiations between Real Madrid and Cruzeiro are set to continue and it has been suggest that an agreement is close.

The Spanish giants initially wanted to sign Silva next summer, but injuries to Khedira, Luka Modric and James Rodriguez could prompt Real Madrid to rope in the youngster during the winter transfer window.

Silva, who has thus far amassed 65 appearances in all competitions for Cruzeiro, is yet to earn a senior cap for Brazil.
