Queens Park Rangers manager Harry Redknapp has insisted that he is not going back for Jermain Defoe in January as he believes the deal will be too expensive.

Redknapp did try to take the striker to Loftus Road in the summer from Toronto FC, but the deal failed to go through.

QPR were not prepared to pay the transfer fee demanded by the MLS outfit for the 32-year-old and the Premier League side abandoned their pursuit.

There have been rumours that Redknapp will again take a chance on former Tottenham striker Defoe next month, but the Englishman brushed aside the speculation said that he is not going back for the striker.

“No, I have never spoken to Jermaine”, the QPR manager said in a press conference.

“We made an enquiry in the summer, it was too expensive and we couldn't do the deal then.”

Redknapp added that Defoe is good player, but he believes for the striker’s age, a transfer would be too expensive.

“I have said all along, if it’s an expensive deal, then we won't able to do it.

“He is a good player but for his age the type of money the club paid for him, they are not going to get that money back.”
