Valencia owner Peter Lim has taken matters into his own hands regarding a proposed move for Benfica midfielder Enzo Perez, flying to Portugal amid interest from Manchester United.

Lim's Valencia are desperate to capture Perez in next month's transfer window, but face competition from Louis van Gaal's Manchester United.

Los Che are fearful of being beaten to last year's Primeira Liga Player of the Year and Lim has taken steps to ensure that does not happen.

Indeed, according to Valencia-based daily Superdeporte, Lim has been in Portugal to personally thrash out a deal to sign the 28-year-old midfielder.

Valencia are now confident they are in pole position to sign the Benfica star and see off any interest from Manchester United when the transfer window swings back open in less than a month.
