Atletico Madrid are currently debating whether to move for Arsenal hitman Lukas Podolski or AC Milan striker Fernando Torres in the January transfer window.

Boss Diego Simeone is keen to boost his firepower for the second half of the campaign, which will see Los Rojiblancos push to defend their Spanish title and also once again attempt a long run in the Champions League.

Podolski, out of favour at Arsenal, and Torres, struggling at AC Milan, are Atletico Madrid's main options, according to Spanish outlet Fichajes.

Podolski would be cup-tied for the Champions League, but still remains a popular option with Simeone, who is a firm fan of the German.

Torres would be available to play in the Champions League meanwhile, however the financial cost in wages of taking the Spaniard is a concern for Atletico Madrid.

The striker, who is on a two-year loan from Chelsea, has struggled in Italy and the Rossoneri are looking at the possibility of cancelling the agreement in January.

Chelsea however do not want Torres back, with manager Jose Mourinho declaring there is no room for his return.

"He is our player, but he is on loan and we have no space for more players on our list, either in the Champions League or the Premier League. That's an impossible picture", Mourinho told a press conference.
