Italian giants Roma want Liverpool full-back Glen Johnson to put pen to paper on a pre-contractual agreement next month.

Johnson is out of contract at Liverpool next summer and the Reds have so far made no progress on agreeing an extension for the 30-year-old.

Roma are keen to snap Johnson up for the 2015/16 campaign, but want him to signal his commitment to heading to the Italian capital by signing a pre-contractual agreement.

Johnson will be able to put pen to paper in January to commit himself to a move to Roma.

According to Italian daily Il Messaggero, Roma sporting director Walter Sabatini is preparing to try to pressure Johnson to sign.

Johnson has so far been positive about heading to Roma, but Sabatini wants his move signed and sealed before other clubs become involved.

The defender played 26 minutes at Old Trafford in Liverpool's 3-0 defeat to Manchester United today before being replaced by Kolo Toure.

Johnson picked up a groin injury, necessitating the change.
