Diego Simeone has refused to give any excuses after Atletico Madrid suffered their first home defeat of the calendar year yesterday.
Villarreal's Luciano Vietto scored the only goal with six minutes left as Atletico Madrid lost more ground in the defence of their league title this season.
Atletico Madrid remained third in the league table, three points off second placed Barcelona and seven points adrift of league leaders Real Madrid.
Simeone admits that the loss is hard to take as it was their first home reversal of the year, but decided against providing any excuses for the manner of Atletico Madrid’s defeat.

The Argentine feels it was an entertaining encounter and congratulated Villarreal for a well-earned three points away from home.
"It was an entertaining match with some opportunities for both teams”, Simeone told the club’s official site.
“They finished the match with a great counter-attack. It is an important defeat because it had been one year since we lost at home.
"There were some mismatches in the last twenty minutes. They made a nice play on the counter-attack and we need to give them credit for the goal.”
