Former Arsenal and France international striker Thierry Henry has announced his retirement from football.

The 37-year-old called time on his spell with New York Red Bulls earlier this month after they were knocked out of the MLS playoffs.

There were rumours that the Arsenal legend might want to prolong his career and play for another club, maybe in the newly-formed Indian Super League.

But the former Barcelona hitman has announced his retirement from football and will be joining the experts’ panel at Sky Sports.

In a statement released on his Facebook page, Henry said: “After 20 years in the game I have decided to retire from professional football.

“It has been an incredible journey and I would like to thank all the fans, team mates and individuals involved with AS Monaco, Juventus, Arsenal FC, FC Barcelona, the New York Red Bulls and of course the French National Team that have made my time in the game so special.

“It is now time for a different career path and I am pleased to say that I will be returning to London and joining Sky Sports.”

Henry, who is expected to take his coaching badges while working as a TV pundit, earned 124 caps for France and scored 51 goals. He also won two Premier League titles and three FA Cups with Arsenal.
