Manchester United and Dutch midfielder Daley Blind has been named Holland’s Sportsman of the Year.

Blind, who is currently recuperating from a knee injury, failed to attend the ceremony and Danny Blind collected the award on his son’s behalf.

Blind had a great year, playing a crucial part in Holland’s run to third place in the World Cup, and joined Manchester United in the summer.

Blind was also named the Dutch Player of the Year for his performances in Ajax’s league winning team last season.

The midfielder, who himself posted the message on Twitter, also congratulated his former club Ajax, who won the Team of the Year award.

“Proud that I've won the Sportsman of the Year of Amsterdam!”, Blind said on Twitter.

“And for last year with Ajax, we've won the award for the Sports Team of the Year! Great job guys.”

Blind quickly became a regular in the Manchester United first eleven and made eight appearances before getting injured on international duty.
