Inter Milan vice-president Javier Zanetti has decided to remain non-committal on the possibility of bringing Mario Balotelli back to the club.

The mercurial Italian striker joined Liverpool from AC Milan this summer, but has so far failed to justify Brendan Rodgers’ rationale in bringing him to Anfield.

He has so far failed to score in the league and has been a source of frustration for the club, both on and off the field.

There is speculation that Liverpool are keen to end their Italian experiment and offload Balotelli to any club who are willing to take him in January.

Rumours of the forward rejoining his former club Inter are also doing the rounds, but Zanetti has chosen to remain non-committal on the topic.

He also added that Inter’s transfer strategy is still not in place and the club hierarchy will meet in the next few days to discuss the possibilities.

"A Balotelli return? We all know Mario is a great player, but I think it's difficult because he only just arrived at Liverpool”, the Inter legend told Sky Italia.

"In any case, after our game against Lazio we will hold meetings to see what we can do and what is needed in terms of the [transfer] market."

Roberto Mancini previously managed Balotelli at Inter and remains a fan of the Liverpool forward.
