Netherlands coach Guus Hiddink believes Louis van Gaal's legacy with the national team has disrupted his time in charge.

Hiddink has endured a wretched run as Van Gaal's successor losing four of his first five games in charge until easing the pressure somewhat with a 6-0 win over Latvia last month.

For the veteran coach there is still thinking from the Van Gaal era in the national team set-up, which he feels may have slowed down the transition to his reign.

"It's really about the little things that need to be looked at further", Hiddink explained to Voetbal International.

"Some people still thought from the old regime and I like to project my thoughts onto the team.

"Everything I say is explained by people as if before then it was not good."

Hiddink is working hard to change the structure Van Gaal had in place with the Oranje, and which does not sit well with him.

"The kind of stuff I like is where you are responsible for certain things. Do what you think is right, if I think it should be different, we talk about it.

"If you appoint someone for a specific function they also have a responsibility in front of the whole team."
