Former Manchester United striker Ole Gunnar Solskjaer believes James Wilson will not get a better mentor than Robin van Persie.

The teenage striker announced his arrival as a Manchester United player with a brace against Hull City last season.

Louis van Gaal rates the 19-year-old and has already started him in two league games, including against Liverpool on Sunday, ahead of star summer signing Radamel Falcao.

Solskjaer can relate to Van Gaal’s judgment in backing the young forward and feels that Wilson has all the attributes to succeed at Old Trafford.

He also added that the Biddulph-born forward won’t get a better mentor than Van Persie and Wilson should always shadow the Dutchman at the club.

"There's definitely something there”, Solskjaer told United Review.

“He's got pace, he can finish and, when his body fills out, he'll improve even more.

"As a young striker, he can't have a better mentor than Robin van Persie – my message would be to just copy your game from his, it's that simple!"

The Norwegian forward scored 126 goals for the club and won six Premier League titles with Manchester United.
