Arsenal are stepping up their interest in Celtic defender Virgil van Dijk with an eye on moving for the Dutchman in January.

The Gunners have lost defenders this season to injury and are in need of defensive reinforcements in January.

Arsene Wenger has said that he will look to add at least one new player to his squad next month and a defender is believed to be their priority.

The club have been scouring the market in search of defenders and have a number of names on their shortlist, including Van Dijk.

The Gunners have been tracking Van Dijk’s performances at Celtic for the last few months and are ready to make their move in January, according to Italian outlet Tutto Mercato.

Instead of trying to sign an experienced head, Arsenal are ready to bank on Van Dijk’s talent and believe he can develop into a top player in the next few years.

Celtic manager Ronny Deila has already said that the defender is a key part of his plans for this season and only a lucrative offer will convince him to part with Van Dijk.
