Former England striker Alan Shearer has paid rich tribute to the French striker Thierry Henry, who announced his retirement from football after 20 years in the game yesterday.

"He could dribble, he could head, his control and his technique were excellent", Shearer told the BBC.

"The good thing about him was he would score all types of goal", he continued.

Describing Henry’s ability and proficiency in front of the goal Shearer said: "He could score headers, tap-ins, long-rangers, whether he was beating two or three players, we saw that on numerous occasions.”
