Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema feels Cristiano Ronaldo’s work ethic and his dedication towards his craft makes him the player that he is today.

Ronaldo has been in scintillating form for Real Madrid this season, scoring 25 league goals in 14 appearances and is widely regarded as the favourite to win the Ballon d’Or next month.

The Portuguese scored 117 goals in 290 appearances for Manchester United, but since joining Real Madrid in 2009, he has scored a staggering 284 goals in 270 games for the European champions.

And Benzema said that Ronaldo’s continued excellence is not an accident as the Portuguese is one of the hardest working players in the world.

The Frenchman added that Ronaldo’s work ethic, coupled with his natural talent make him the best player in the world at the moment.

"Beyond his outstanding talent, I think his best trait is his work ethic”, Benzema told France Football.

“I've learnt a lot from working with him. You can't be as successful as he is without working hard, without being an absolute perfectionist and above all, paying attention to the smallest details.

“He leaves nothing to chance, which is why he's also the best player in the world right now."
