Manchester United defender Phil Jones feels his injury troubles this season have been nothing but unfortunate.

Jones made a comeback into the first eleven in Manchester United’s 3-0 win over Liverpool on Sunday, his first appearance since a draw against West Brom in October.

Injuries have relegated the England defender to only five appearances for the club this season and he is naturally disappointed with his recent troubles.

Jones sustained a hamstring injury on England duty earlier this year and then after the game against West Brom he suffered from shin splints.

The defender feels he has been unfortunate with his injury troubles this term as he had very little problems during pre-season with Manchester United.

"I started the pre-season and played every single game and took part in every single training session", Jones told his club's site.

"Then on international duty, I pulled my hamstring and I've never had a muscle injury in my life so it was disappointing. When I was coming back I then had shin splints.

“Unfortunately that's just the way it has been."

Jones will look to get a run of games to get back to peak fitness and will be hoping to get another start for the Red Devils at Aston Villa on Saturday.
