Daley Blind believes that Manchester United should not rule themselves out of the title race, with catching Chelsea an entirely realistic proposition.

The Netherlands international is currently sidelined through injury, but has watched on as his team-mates have embarked upon a six-match winning run.

They beat fierce rivals Liverpool 3-0 at the weekend and now sit third, eight points behind leaders Chelsea.

For Blind, drawing upon his experience at former club Ajax, that is not too large a points gap to bridge.

"The season is still long and my experience from the Netherlands shows that even if you are more points behind you can still be champions", Blind told Telesport.

"You should of course not write yourself off and as long as we are still this distance behind we still have a chance", he added.

Manchester United play Aston Villa away on Saturday before hosting Newcastle on Boxing Day.

The Red Devils then head to Tottenham two days later, while they welcome in the new year by heading to Stoke City.
