Bayern Munich defender David Alaba has been named Austrian Player of the Year for the fourth time in a row.

Still only 22 years old, he has become an integral part of Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich as well as the Austrian national team.

“A huge thanks to the coaches who have voted for me”, Alaba was quoted as saying by UEFA.

He holds Austria's record as the youngest player to play for the team, debuting in 2009 as a 17-year-old. Since then he has scored eight times in 35 international appearances for his country.

"Of course this is something special for me, I am very happy about it", he further added emphasising the importance of the award.

The prestigious award is voted for by the coaches of the Austrian Bundesliga and handed over by the Austrian Press Agency.

The young stalwart, who has been out nursing a knee ligament injury he suffered during his side's 2-0 win over Roma in the Champions League in early November, is expected to be fit by early February.
