Mario Balotelli has been banned for one match and handed a £25,000 fine by the Football Association.

The Liverpool striker has received the punishment due to a post he made via social media, which appeared to be both anti-Semitic and racist in nature.

Balotelli accepted an FA charge, but did write a letter in mitigation.

He will now miss one match, pay a £25,000 fine and attend an education course.

Balotelli has responded to the punishment via Facebook, writing: "Following the recent events related to my "Super Mario" post, the FA decision has made clear that it was wrong.

"I am sorry that my team-mates and supporters of Liverpool FC have to be penalized for something I did and now come to regret. It is my intention to comply with the decision of the FA and make sure it never happens again."
