In-demand Borussia Dortmund star Marco Reus has been shown little Christmas cheer by the German authorities after he was fined €540,000 for driving without a license.

Reus was stopped driving his Aston Martin in Dortmund in March, having jumped into his car after a training session. He was asked to show his driving license, but could not produce it.

A further police check discovered that Reus had no license at all.

Reus had been, according to German daily Bild, photographed speeding on five occasions, the first being in September 2011.

On each occasion he paid the fine, however officials did not bother to check whether he had a driving license.

Now Reus has been hit with a €540,000 fine for all six offences, with fines in Germany being calculated to take into account a person's monthly wage.

Reus is one of the most in-demand players in world football, having been linked with a whole host of clubs, including Liverpool, Manchester United, Barcelona and Real Madrid.
