Newcastle United will request that the Premier League to allow the club an opportunity to sign a goalkeeper on an emergency loan.

Tim Krul and Rob Elliot are already sidelined with injuries and their third-choice shot-stopper, Jak Alnwick, injured his shoulder in Newcastle’s League Cup quarter-final defeat against Tottenham last night.

17-year-old goalkeeper Freddie Woodman was on the bench and Pardew is not ready to envisage a situation where he will be forced to start the youngster on Sunday.

"There is no way that a 17-year-old should be allowed to go in goal at Premier League level", the Newcastle manager told the BBC.

Newcastle’s next fixture is against Sunderland in the Tyne-Wear derby this weekend and Pardew is unsure whether Alnwick will be fit in time for Sunday.

"He has an injury to his shoulder so we're going to have to see.

"We will perhaps talk to the Premier League about Jak's situation."

Newcastle own Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Karl Darlow, who they signed in the summer before loaning him out to the Championship club for the rest of the season.
