Stoke City manager Mark Hughes believes his team have a fighting chance to secure points when they face Premier League table toppers Chelsea on Monday.

Hughes, who was appointed manager at the start of last season, led Stoke to an unprecedented ninth place finish in the Premier League in 2013/14.

Talking about their next league opponents Chelsea, he said in a press conference: “When we go up against so called bigger teams who are prepared to take chances against us, we have been able to exploit them.

“We have found it difficult against teams who come here and sit back”, he further added.

Recognising Chelsea’s strength, Hughes continued: “My view is that they are the top team in the league at the moment. I think their mentality is strong and they have outstanding ability. They believe in themselves.”

One of their best performers, Bojan Krkic, who suffered a slight niggle, is expected to be ready for the match at the Britannia Stadium.

Stoke will be aiming to take points off the Pensioners on Monday in order to boost their form over the festive period.
