West Ham United defender James Tomkins has admitted that their primary goal remains a top ten finish come the end of the current Premier League season.

After a poor display last season when the Hammers struggled for consistency, Sam Allardyce’s team have shown considerable improvement and sit fourth in the Premier League table.

"Ultimately it is our aim to finish in the top ten, but I do feel like my performances are coming on strong", the 25-year-old told the club site.

Looking ahead to the busy Christmas schedule he added: "It's our busiest time of the year, with four games in twelve games".

Aware of the dangers of a packed fixture list when teams often struggle to maintain their form, he further added: "We've got to make sure it doesn't happen to us this weekend to keep the run going into a difficult schedule."

In his twelve appearances this season, the West Ham academy product has contributed with a goal and two assists.

West Ham face relegation contenders Leicester City this weekend where a win would see them strengthen their position in Premier League’s top four.
