Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini has stressed his desire to keep Frank Lampard at the Etihad Stadium beyond January, but insists that the final decision does not depend on him.

The 36-year-old ended his long term association with Premier League side Chelsea to join MLS side New York City FC, a joint venture between Manchester City and baseball giants New York Yankees, this summer.

However, he immediately returned to England to join Chelsea's title rivals Manchester City on a loan deal until January.

Lampard has since been impressive for the Citizens, having scored six goals in 14 matches and has also provided his team-mates with four equally important assists.

As a result, the Chilean manager is now keen to extend his loan deal, but believes that the final decision depends on a number of factors.

"We'll see. It is not just our decision", Pellegrini said at a press conference.

"Of course I want him to stay but I can not say 100 per cent at this moment."
