Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has revealed that he will have no choice but to rotate his squad in order to keep everyone fit for the tough run of fixtures ahead.

The Red Devils will have a busy schedule ahead as they prepare to take on Aston Villa on Sunday followed by back-to-back matches against Newcastle United and Tottenham on 26th and 28th of December.

The Dutch manager therefore feels that rotating the squad will be important during the festive period. He though conceded that his team will be faced with a precarious situation with so many players already missing out due to injury.

"It [rotation] is probably a solution for that problem, because a lot of matches in so few days is, in my opinion, ridiculous", Van Gaal told his club's official site.

"That is why I think I have to rotate, but then the players have to be fit and not every player is fit with us."

Van Gaal also took time to speak about his formula for the players during the busy schedule.

"Rest, only rest – that is what we shall do.

"We have to play these two matches [Newcastle on 26 December and Tottenham on 28 December] and that is normal in the Premier League. I cannot change that."

The match against Tottenham will be followed by a visit to Stoke on 1st January and an FA Cup third round tie against Yeovil on 4th January.
