Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard believes team-mate Raheem Sterling has the potential to become a star in the future; the England international has become one of the best youngsters in the game on the back of his performances.

Talking to the club site, Gerrard said: “Raheem's got the potential to be top drawer, for sure. He's got to keep learning, he's got to keep wanting it. He's great to watch and great to play with, he's got that pace.”

Praising the youngster’s versatility, Gerrard added: "I think Raheem can play anywhere along the front, he's that intelligent.

“You've got to be able to have that in your locker if you want to be top drawer”, he added.

Emphasising the importance of pace, Gerrard further said: "There's nothing better as a midfielder when you look up and see pace running in behind, because it stretches teams and creates chances."

There is increasing speculation about Sterling’s future after he rejected a new contract offer.

Sterling, who scored two goals in the League Cup match against Bournemouth, will look to continue his stellar form when Liverpool entertain Arsenal this weekend in the league.
