Arsene Wenger has talked up the influence of Raheem Sterling at Liverpool ahead of his Arsenal side's trip to Anfield on Sunday.

Liverpool have struggled to replace the attacking threat carried by Luis Suarez last term and recently boss Brendan Rodgers has turned to Sterling in a central striking role.

Liverpool have further suffered through the absence of Daniel Sturridge though injury, but Wenger feels Sterling was just as much part of the Reds' success last term as any of their main two strikers.

He said at a press conference: "I rate him highly.

"Everybody spoke about Suarez last year, but Sturridge and Sterling were very influential."

Wenger is also appreciative of the busy festive period, which Arsenal's clash with Liverpool will truly kick off.

"It's a very important period now. We play four games quickly. How you come out of the Christmas period is very important.

"It's a shock for new players because they're used to a break. Many of them suffer physically", the Frenchman added.
